Weapons

November 26th or 26/11 as it is commonly known, is a dark day in the modern history of India. We all remember watching on TV the chaotic scenes in Mumbai. A handful of terrorists, completely cripple the financial capital of our country killing hundreds.

I remember watching an interview by one of the news channels. It was in a hospital ward, a 50+ year old policeman, bandaged all over, still shaken and scared, was being interviewed. It was …hmm… very pitiful and sad to watch that interview. In a quivering voice, he said, “the terrorists had modern, automatic firing guns, but all that I had with me was my service revolver, which they gave me when I joined service.”

Service revolvers are slow, not very powerful, self loading, only 6 bullets at a time gun. The poor policeman was almost in tears saying that he could hardly protect himself with that gun, leave alone fight and protect other with it.

1997, the movie Independence day, starring Will Smith was released. Great movie, man triumphs over aliens in a pulsating battle on the 4th of July. Towards the end of the movie, they have almost defeated the aliens, and need one more missile to completely destroy the mother ship. There’s only one missile left and the pilot carefully locks the target… he presses the red button…… the missile is jammed…. To win the war, the same pilot crashes his plane intentionally into the target….they win the war…..but a weapon failure…

Isn’t it sad to use a “weak” or a malfunctioning weapon during war? But it is saddest when, we have the best and most sophisticated weapon with us and not use it. II Corinthians 10:4 says, “The weapons of our warfare are not of this world (are not carnal), but they are mighty in pulling down strongholds.” The weapons we have are prayer and the Word of God. No they are not weak. No they will not malfunction.

I love the song which says, “We wanna see Jesus lifted high”. I especially like the line which says, “Every prayer is a powerful weapon. Strongholds come, tumbling down!” Amen!
We are involved in a battle much bigger than anything else. We cannot afford to be ignorant of our weapons. How often do we use these weapons of ours which are powerful, effective and unlimited?

There could be other battles that we face... areas which are the devils strongholds in our life...... sleep, laziness, habits, addictions....if we wrestle it out, the strongholds will for sure, come tumbling down....!

E very soldier has to give an account of how he has used his weapon and ammo to his officer. One day, we too will need to give an account to our officer. I hope we would have used the best use of our weapons.
