Letter to the youth

Dear friend,

I urge you to read this letter carefully as you will experince this feeling sooner or later in your life. This has nothing to do with spirituality, but from a friend’s heart to another… read on

I wish to start this letter with this small pump in our body called ‘THE HEART’. Boy, can it pump! Have you ever observed the verbs used to describe the heart? A heart can be broken, it can be shattered, it can melt, can be blown to pieces, can be crushed, can leap with joy, etc., this small organ definitely does more than just pushing the blood around. It is also the birthseat of all our emotions. Out of the heart erupts love, hatred, anger, jealousy, revenge, etc. let us concentrate on arguably the strongest emotion- LOVE.

It’s the theme of a poet, a painter, a songwriter. Hollywood, bollywood etc. worship it and glorify it, but it’s ironic to notice that songs such as “love hurts”, “I’ll never fall in love again”, “ Fool again (Westlife)” and so many other songs with the same theme are big-time hits on the charts.

How many of our own friends do we know who spend sleepless nights, bitterly crying and going without food for days together because of an apparent “love failure”? our heart might be complicated and deep, but on the whole, it’s soft and tender. That’s why it is so easily crushed. It is pitiful to watch people in this hangover.

Adam had an Eve, who was perfect for him and complemented him in every way. Similarly each one of us have a “Mr. Right” and “Miss. Perfect”. It is very risky to assume someone to whom we are attracted fill this position at this time in our life. Situations could go haywire and many-a-heart can be broken during this time.

A perfect metaphor for this is of a lock and key. Every lock has one right ‘key’ for it. If we forcefully use the wrong key in a lock, the lock and the key will get damaged. It gets twisted and twirled and unfortunately, the damage is permanent. And now when we try to use the key to it’s original lock, there are lots of hindrances because of the heavy friction.

Just like the lock & key, if we even mistakingly try to bind the ‘wrong’ hearts together, they get damaged. After a point, they get twisted and twirled, crushed, broken….. sadly the damage is permanent and the scars remain etched for a long time. And when the damaged heart meets it’s true soulmate, the scars and wounds, haunt it and this leads to unhappy marriage life.

Marriage is the oldest and holiest institution. It is not a contract, but a covenant fully based on love. It’s always worth the wait and never worth the risk. Otherwise your heart and many others too would be broken. Elders might say relationships are not necessary as they affect the studies, imbalances us mentally, give us a bad name…etc. There is a lot of wisdom in what they say, but the simple reason I am asking you to consider carefully any realtionships because it directly involves your heart and I don’t want you to hurt it.

The best wedding gift, a man can give his wife or vice-versa on their wedding day is look deeply into each other’s eyes and say, “My love, here’s my heart. I have preserved it carefully and made sure it’s in one piece. Take it. It was always yours.”

With love,

A concerned youth.

P.s: Remember , your heart comes with a warning, “Fragile. Handle with care”.
