Modern ScrewTape letter
Characters:
Screw tape- A senior satan who writes letters to his nephew wormwood. He has lots of experience in pulling down Christians and always refers to Jesus as “our enemy”. He critically analyses every move his nephew and constantly encourages or scolds him for his move.
Wormwood- The nephew, who is inexperienced, constantly tries to make the believer for whom he is responsible, fall.
Letter:
Dear Wormwood,
I am very disappointed with you that you have allowed your patient to meet his old friend. You very well know how his friend is passionate for our enemy. You should have anticipated his every move. Now, your patient has got involved in ministry and regularly attends the fellowship and prayer. What a big blunder! In the fellowship, he is being made to pray and read that dangerous Book (Bible). You worked so hard before this to keep him from all these unhealthy habits. And from what I see, many people from outside come to this fellowship and pollute his mind even more!
Cheer up! Don’t lose heart! All is not lost. Our main aim is that your patient does not become close to our Enemy. We must distract him. And a very important tool we can use is what they call “ministry”. We must use this to our advantage. Now that he is “in the Lord”, he will be willing to do anything in the name of ministry thinking that would please the Enemy, but here’s a trap he is bound to miss. Let him take more responsibilities in the ministry, more than what he can bear. Let him sign up for every committee and other ministry activities. Make sure that he becomes very busy that it would rob him of his sleep and time with family. A great idea we can use is make him involved in 3 or 4 ministries. He will think he is pleasing the Enemy and give ministry the first priority. Once he starts sacrificing his prayer time and the time he reads that dangerous book for ministry, we are in a safe place. Slowly even without his knowledge, his passion and zeal for ministry would wear off. I have observed that when a particular ministry activity for which they work very hard gets over, they are completely lost in their relationship to the enemy and that’s when we move in. He will suddenly have lots of time in his hands and not know what to do with it. He would have completely lost touch with his prayer time and the “dangerous book” reading time, that he’ll never even think about them. People in the fellowship would now feel very distant and each would go about minding their own business and won’t really bother about him. Even his family members would have got fed up with his busyness that they won’t treat him well now…. It’s time for the left hook. I feel that you can take it from here. He would be a sitting duck and you can use anyone of our old textbook methods to drag him totally to our side. You can use music, or relationships or the internet, old habits etc… to keep him close to us. I feel you are old enough to discern and use the right tactic at the right time.
So Wormwood, I want you to grow up faster. You must be more matured and wise in every move of yours. Even if you fail, try to get back and use the situation to our advantage. We know that we are going to lose the final war with the Enemy. He is just too strong for us. But we must not give up. Every patient is important to us. We must drag as many patients as possible to our side before we go down. Your cousins are actually faring very well. Except Stickleaf, who lost his patient to the enemy, the rest of them are doing fine. I need you to make me proud as I have spoken highly of you. Do not disappoint me. I know you are capable.
Your loving uncle,
Screwtape.
