Peter's Diary
31 AD, Third watch, My house
From the time I can remember, I have been a boring, dull fisherman. My grandfather was afisherman, my dad was a fisherman, I am fisherman my brother is a fisherman, my son will be a fisherman… all my life,, fishes, boats, nets…that’s all I know… but the last few days have been very very ….dont really know what word to use… a mixture of exciting, full of surprises, weird, interesting…amazing… from the time I dropped my nets…when Jesus called me to be a fisher of men(still don’t know why I chose to listen to him) I have been observing strange things… few days back He did this amazing thing at Cana, He changed water into wine!!
Whenever He does this amazing thing like healing the sick or freeing the demon possessed or even raising the dead..(ya …I know…is that cool or what??) He uses certain phrases like, “your sins are forgiven”, ”I command you to come out”, “ your faith has healed you” etc… each time it’s different.. but something happened today which will be etched in my mind for a long time….
It was the Sabbath and we were in a synagogue in Capernaum, listening to Jesus teach. There is so much authority and clarity in His words…not like the regular teachers of the law… and suddenly a man who was possessed started screaming at Jesus…. Jesus asked him to keep quiet when he mentioned that Jesus was the Son of the Holy One…. And by shaking and a final shriek…. The demon left him… Jesus’ popularity only increased…
It was in this hulla-bulla I found my son running to me… he told me that my mother in law was still sick with that fever…and she was suffering… what can I do?? We are “fishermen folk”.. we are not educated.. we work hard to put food in the table… and if someone falls sick… we can’t afford a doctor.. just wait for the sickness to leave… but my poor mother-in-law was sapped of all her energy and she was weak.. it was at this moment, with a swarm of people around Him…Jesus saw me…He came to me and inquired….when I told Him my MIL’s condition, He immediately left the synagogue and hurried off to our home along with James, John and my brother Andrew. I never expected Him to do that… I mean… He didn’t have to do that… even I wasn’t too bothered about it… just pitied her.. It never even struck me that He could come to our house….
it was amazing to see how as soon as reached home…He went right next to her… gave her His hand… and helped her up… that was it… no magic words.. no abracadabra.. or your faith has healed you…or your sins are forgiven… but yet she was healed… this has a lasting impression on her… hardly anyone cares she exists… but for her to see someone who came upto her..yes a lady!! Not a centurions wife..no not the Sanhedrin head’s wife..but an old insignificant woman..from a fisherman’s community… gave His hand and helped her up… His love healed her…. From what I have observed in Him..He could have just said the words from the synagogue and she still would have been healed… but from this act of His.. which not many people do.. I learnt how He loves, cares for everyone….including women, the old and weary…He goes right next to them….. and gives His hand and helps them up… so very personal… this life is exciting… would like to learn more from this man…
